detox pineapple cucumber smoothie

So, I wake up from the night before feeling like I have indulged a little too much and now need something light, refreshing and, more importantly, detoxing! I need something good and I need it fast. I need to re-set my body and get it back to top form.

Here’s where this light and delicious simple smoothie comes in to play. Just 6 ingredients, which you can easily have ready in your freezer (remember those old frozen bananas stuck in the back somewhere? Let’s get those thrown into the blender!).

I’ve created this simple smoothie using some absolutely knock-out fruits and veggies, designed to give you a detox hit as soon as you wake. Let’s take a quick look at why I have used pineapple and cucumber in this detoxing smoothie…

Pineapple – an absolute power house of a fruit, loaded with vitamin C and touted to have all kinds of benefits including protecting against IBS and constipation, healing, improving eye and oral health, boosts immunity and blood circulation… the list goes on!

Cucumber – somewhat understated and a bit of a green salad staple, this humble green super vegetable often goes unnoticed however the health and wellness benefits make this the perfect detox veggie. Cucumbers are packed with water meaning this smoothie will start you on your way to hydration as soon as you wake up this, in tern, means you’ll start flushing out those toxins too! Cucumbers are also fantastic for improving and nurturing skin, aiding in weight loss and have a cooling effect, to name just a few additional benefits.

The finished result of this smoothie is a refreshing taste with just a hint of mint (don’t be tempted to add in any more mint then I have outlined). The pineapple and orange juice gives it just the right amount of sweetness while the cucumber is cooling and just a touch earthy.

what you need;

  • 1 ripe banana
  • heaped cup frozen pineapple (can use fresh but add in a few ice cubes)
  • 1/4 cucumber (peel left on)
  • 1/4 cup coconut water
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 x mint leaves

 what you need to do;

Place everything into your blender, liquid first, and bltix together until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy. Add a spring of mint for garnish and flair… not essential!
